The Universiada is going to be held in Granada in 2015! The Universiada is a world-wide “Olympic Games” for Universities held in winter.

The Games include 27 different sports, and the event would be a huge opportunity for Granada. Their participation will be officially accepted between April 6-9, although it is pretty much certain now!

The University of Granada plans on building on the installations that were put up for the Skiing championships in the Sierra Nevada in 1996, and turning the city into a destination for all types of winter sports! The plans for the event propose 3 areas for development: Granada, the Sierra Nevada and Puerto de la Ragua. The skiing events, including alpine skiing, artistic skiing and snowboarding will take place in the Sierra Nevada!

The following sports will take place in the city; speed skating, figure skating, curling and hockey, using the town’s Sports Hall and the Sport Centre of the University of Fuentenueva. Hopefully they’ll build a new sports centre next to the current sports hall and an area for the athletes, including a permanent ice rink and a basketball court, used for competitions and training.

It’s a great opportunity for the city to build on it’s cultural and sporting events!
